Su Jin Lee, Ph.D., is a Lecturer in the Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
Lee’s research interests are focused on how geographic information science (GIS) and geospatial technologies can address and solve critical human-environmental issues such as terrain analysis, land cover and land use change caused by urban development, and climate and air pollution. His research integrates spatial approaches in addressing questions of the interaction between humans and the environment using geospatial technologies such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, and global positioning systems (GPS).
He teaches courses in spatial analysis, spatial modeling and spatial data acquisition in the Spatial Sciences Institute undergraduate and master’s programs. His teaching philosophy is to develop spatial thinkers who understand geographic information science so that they can deploy that understanding through various technologies in the domains of their choice.
Lee serves as a mentor for students who are in the NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program and directs undergraduate students in research projects funded by the USC Undergraduate Research Associates Program (URAP).
He is certified as a Geographic Information Science Professional (GISP) by the Geographic Information Science Certification Institute (GISCI).
